Ornithological station of Estaca de Bares
The Estaca de Bares Ornithological Station is oriented to the north, in order to avoid glare when birdwatching. This observatory offers the most restless traveler the possibility of observing many different species of birds.
The counted passage is of more than 275,000 birds every year; being a real treasure for ornithological observation.
Birdwatching in Estaca de Bares
Thousands of birdwatchers regularly visit the Cape of Estaca de Bares and one of the most attractive species is the Atlantic Gannet, which can be seen in these parts.
Observation of the Atlantic Gannet
The Estaca de Bares Ornithological Station is also a feeding place for the elegant gannets, the alca, terns, puffins, shearwaters that cross the cliffs in migration to the established areas to spend the winter. There are also the cormorants, which are configured as colonies by establishing as point and end of their routes the Cape of Estaca de Bares.
Staying and sleeping at the bird observatory
The Bares Ornithological Station is the only observatory where up to four people are allowed to stay overnight and since 2007 it has a professional ornithologist.
It is possible to sleep there, with the consequent unforgettable experience for those who have tried it.
